| In Dale's Words: Dad played piccolo and several other instruments, and also directed an orchestra in Chicago. Mom played cello for school and church. In 1953, Dad's job called him to the Lewis-Clark Valley and we moved to Clarkston. My parents always had LP and 78 records of the classics we could listen to. Rafael Mendez, who was probably the best trumpet player that has ever lived, had the biggest impact on me. Earl Scruggs (banjo master) who was probably the most influential banjo player that has ever lived, had a huge impact on my banjo playing as well. I played trumpet all through my school years and started playing the banjo several years ago. I also sang barbershop quartet/chorus music in the Lewis-Clark Valley and competed in the District competition for both. | ||
