A little boy with his GI-Joes
Is playing in the yard
His mama's gone from dawn to dusk
Man, she works so darn hard
And even with the overtime
The ends never seem to meet
A little boy can hear her crying
When he goes to sleep
His mama tells him when life don't seem fair
Get on your knees and offer up a prayer
His daddy's gone for just awhile
To help his Uncle Sam
To make the world a better place
To draw a line in the sand
And pretty soon they'll be together
Together at Christmastime
They'll celebrate the birth of Jesus
On the trees the lights will shine
His mama tells him when life don't seem fair
Get on your knees and offer up a prayer
A little boy and his family are
Together once again
They'll never take for granted now
The time they have to spend
So every night when he goes to bed
He offers up a prayer
He asks for God to protect the ones
Who are still over there
His mama tells him when life don't seem fair
Get on your knees and offer up a prayer
